Chippenham Town Council (Advertised 18th April 2024)  Post filled

  • The Town Council is looking to appoint a Deputy Macebearer whose main responsibility will be attending the 8 Town Council events planned throughout the civic year  during which you will assist Town Council officers in the smooth running of the event, which can include but not limited to; welcoming guests, introducing them to the Mayor and escorting them around the building, and in the absence of the Macebearer, carry the Mace, wear the ceremonial robes of office and escort the Mayor. This role does involve long periods of standing during the event.
  • Prospective candidates should be honest, trustworthy, possess a sense of civic pride, and have excellent customer service skills with the ability to deal with a range of people in a professional and courteous manner. We will arrange for you to become a Member of the Guild of Macebearers. In addition, to thank you for your contribution you will be paid an honorarium of £150 per annum.

Newbury Town Council (Advertised 8th April 2024)  Post filled

  • To lead civic processions in a dignified manner. To assist with civic regalia at Full Council Meetings, to stand in for Mayor’s
    Attendant and to provide assistance in the Town Hall when requested.
  • MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    To dress in the required uniform and carry the Mace leading civic processions at annual events including; Mayor Making, Remembrance Sunday and special events such as Town Twinning. Follow the instructions from Town Marshal and/or Civic Manager when in a civic procession. To lay out the required civic regalia for Full Council Meetings and to announce the arrival of the Mayor. When the Mayor’s Attendant is unavailable, to stand in and fulfil the duties of Mayor’s Attendant when requested and available ensuring the safekeeping of regalia. To act as an ambassador for Newbury Town Council. The post holder shall be provided with a robe and tricorn hat upon appointment to wear on Town Council duties. To assist the Civic Manager with other duties as may be requested from time to time.
  • POST HOLDER REQUIREMENTS
    Confidence in facing the public. A high standard of appearance is required suitable for the position and event being attended. The ability to build a rapport with people. Willing to learn about the history of Newbury. Punctual. Comfortable standing for long periods of time in all weather conditions. To be able to work on own initiative without supervision and within a small team. Political neutrality when representing Newbury Town Council. To always act with discretion and to be aware that any views expressed may be seen to be the views of the Mayor or this Council.
